Internet Cafés to Filter Adult Content
The move to limit pornography and
"adult pages" in internet cafés is picking up, as congress is looking at
creating a new law that would force owners of internet cafés to install
filters on some of their computers, creating a "porn free" zone.
Some internet cafés visited during the past week warn their customers
that they are not permitted to view adult material in their
establishment, though no filters are in place. Some internet café owners
are welcoming the idea, while others don't see the big fuss.
The idea of filtering content is to restrict minors from accessing adult
material, away from adult supervision. The filters that would be
installed would look for key words used in web pages and block the page
from being displayed.
The plan would restrict all computers save for a small group of machines
and the areas be clearly identified. Minors would not be allowed to surf
the web on machines that don't have the restrictions.
