Colombian, Panamanian leaders to discuss energy, trade
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe
will travel to Panama on Sunday to discuss bilateral cooperation in
energy and trade with his Panamanian counterpart, Martin Torrijos, the
Colombian government said Thursday.
Uribe will pay a whirlwind visit to Panama and discuss "bilateral
cooperation in electricity, natural gas and road, as well as security
and trade," said the government.
The two leaders will sign a joint declaration after their meeting.
As an observer to Plan Puebla-Panama, an initiative to promote the
economic integration of Mexico and Central America by improving
infrastructure, Colombia proposed a gas pipeline linking South and
Central America through its territory so that it can export natural gas
to the regions.
Uribe will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Carolina Barco, Defense
Minister Jorge Uribe, Energy Minister Luis Mejia and Transportation
Minister Andres Gallego.
