Iran, Venezuela to boost economic ties

Khatami arrived here Thursday for a three-day visit aimed at boosting
bilateral ties.
During the trip here, Khatami's third one in five years, the two sides
are expected to sign several joint-venture agreements in various fields
of industry.
The joint ventures will include a cement plant with an annual capacity
of 1 million tons and an automobile assembly plant for sedans, both in
Venezuela.
Besides, Khatami will inaugurate a tractor plant in the southeastern
state of Boliviar. The joint venture between Corporacion Venezolana de
Guayana and the Iran Tractor Manufacturing Co. has an annual capacity of
up to 5,000 tractors, officials say.
Khatami's previous visits to Caracas were made in 2000 within the
framework of the OPEC summit and during the summit of Group of15 in
2004.
Iran, the world's second largest producer of crude oil, and Venezuela,
the world's fifth largest oil exporter, are both members of the
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
