MASSACRE IN MONTEVERDE:
Crowd Wanted
to Lynch "the Beast"
“Suelten a ese hijuep... para matarlo”, were the screams outside the
bank where Erlin Hurtado Martínez killed 7 and took dozens hostage in a
frustrated bank hold up of the local branch of the Banco Nacional in
Santa Elena de Monteverde.
Hurtado was taken away by police to the courthouse in Puntarenas under
heavy protection as the crowd outside wanted to lynch the beast.
The same was occurring outside the courthouse building as the crowds
outside were demanding police to release the man to them, as they would
mete out the justice for the animal.
Police too Hurtado to the nearby hospital - Hospital Monseñor Sanabria
de Puntarenas - to be examined and treated for his wounds. Breaking all
the rules, they did not leave the man unattended even for a second,
staying by his side while doctors treated him.
Hurtado faces seven counts of murder, as well as other counts of
kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of prohibited weapons and
other charges that could see him being condemned to at least a 1.000
years in jail time.
