Venezuela confirmed as Copa America venue
Venezuela assured Tuesday it will be
the venue of Copa America 2007 despite internal disputes that affect the
elections of the local soccer federation.
The Director of the Operative Committee of Copa America 2007, Oswaldo
Narvaez, said the regional tournament will take place in Venezuela as
accorded and that the process for the selection of the Venezuelan Soccer
Federation (FVF) will not affect the organization.
"Whichever the result in the elections is, the seat is a commitment for
the country and the national government, and goes beyond an electoral
process," said the Bolivarian News Agency (ABN).
Narvaez ruled out that a judicial decision, which postponed theFVF
elections could lead to the Federation leaving the International Soccer
Federation (FIFA).
Narvaez also said that next week the meetings will continue to resume
the projects aimed at the construction and remodeling of infrastructure
for Copa America, along with public and private organizations taking
part.
