The quiet and peaceful tourist
area of Santa Elena, in Monteverde de Puntarenas, was broken yesterday
with a daring attempt to rob the local branch of the Banco Nacional,
that left at least three dead some 19 hostages in the balance.
Former President Rodriguez To Plead for His Freedom Today
Former president, Miguel Angel Rodríguez is expected to go before the
Juzgado Penal del Segundo Circuito Judicial de San José today to ask for
his release from preventive detention.

The American Life League recently submitted an amicus brief in support
of the government of Costa Rica's complete ban on in vitro
fertilization. "The public doesn't like to admit the fact that IVF does
the same thing that abortion does -- it kills preborn babies," said
