Colombian president to visit Japan, China
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe will visit Japan and China in April
with a delegation of entrepreneurs to promote trade relations with the
two Asian countries, said Luis Plata, chairman of the Fund for the
Promotion of Exports of Colombia (Proexport), on Monday.
Uribe will participate in the annual assembly of the Inter American
Development Bank (IDB) in the Japanese city of Okinawa on April 10-12
and travel to the Chinese capital city of Beijing on April 13, said
Plate, who will accompany Uribe during the trip.
Colombian Foreign Minister Carolina Barco, Financial Minister Alberto
Carrasquilla, Trade Minister Jorge Botero will also travel with Uribe.
Colombia will seek to attract investments in a bid to reduce its trade
deficit, which stood at 306.9 million US dollars with Japan and 730.3
million dollars with China in 2004, he said.
Plata said Colombia wants to show China that Colombia was "an excellent
strategic partner to serve as an export platform to other countries of
America."
