Mid Day Shootout Leaves Two Dead
An exchange of gunfire left one assailant and bodyguard dead in a mid-day shootout in Zapote, near Casa Presidencial.

Shot dead in the shootout is Javier Ocampo Arias, 28 years old, who was working as a bodyguard for the owner of a nearby gasoline station who were on route to be bank to make a deposit. The white Mercedes was intercepted by several men in an attempted holdup, not realizing the owner with the bag of money was driving behind the Mercedes in another car.

According to the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) reportm the two had just left the gasoline station when they were confronted by the assailants, who opened fire on the Mercedes when it didn't stop.

Ocampo fired back and shot dead one of the assailants, wounding another, who fled the scene. A third sped away and witnesses say there may have been a fourth assailant involved as well.

The OIJ is continuing it's investigation into the attempted robbery.
