Costa Rican Sugar to be Sold in Canadian
Supermarkets
Come next month, Costa Rican sugar will be
making it's appearance in Wal-Mart in Canada, with the first shipment of
73.329 kilos each month, according to the director of Liga
Agrícola de la Caña (Laica).
Laica will be shipping the sugar under the trade name Great Value.
Wal Mart will add slowly with time more presentation of Costa Rican
sugar products that include refined and organic sugars.
Negotiations began the middle of last year when Laica sent a test
shipment of 400.000 kilos, a triumph for the company that had been
trying to break into the Canadian market since 2002, the time that a
free trace agreement was signed between Canada and Costa Rica.
Laica has an office in Vancouver, Canada, to help with the market
penetration as it tries to expand it's product base, that will include
an organic sugar under the name brand First Choice, which is being
presently sold in the Bahamas.
