Venezuelan President
Supports Seat for India in UN Security Council
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed
his support Saturday to India´s intention to have a permanent seat at
the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
"We would feel quite well represented by India and Brazil in the UN
Security Council," said Chavez in his 2nd day of visit in India.
Chavez went to the signing of 5 important agreements Saturday between
India and Venezuela in matters of oil, hydrocarbons, biotechnology,
railroad, and another to create a Venezuelan-Indian joint commission.
With the signing of these agreements, Indian state enterprise Oil and
Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) will acquire 49 percent of a Venezuelan crude
oil wealth, while Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) will participate in an
ONGC refinery plant in Mangalore.
"A real alliance between India and Venezuela to construct a better
future has been born from now on," Chavez said.
Chavez´ program in India includes a dialogue with Indian Head of the
Government Manmohan Singh, and visits to the cities of Calcuta and
Bangalore, the last one an international center for communication and
computer science.
His trip to India is part of a tour on several countries that started in
Uruguay, where he went to the new Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez
taking office ceremony.
The Venezuelan President will go to the city of Calcuta, former Indian
capital, where he will be the object of a great reception.
Chavez put a flower offering before the monument to Indian independence
leader Mahatma Ghandi, and was received by Indian President Abdul Kala
