There Is No List in the Sinaí Case
The Ministerio Público assures a Legislative Commission that there is no list containing names of politicians, businessmen and sports stars related to the case of Sinaí Monge, the madam who was sentenced to 8 years in prison for "proxenetismo agravado" - pimping of minors.

From the arrest of Sinaí in October of 2003, there has always been mention of a list - a black book of sort - of names of important persons who used the services of the madam to contact underage prostitutes.

In the week following her sentencing, the head of PANI - the child welfare agency - Rosalía Gil, had demanded from the Ministerio Público a copy of the list. This week, the Defensoris de los Habitantes, made a similar request.

Prosecutor José Alberto Rojas Chacón made the statement of "no list" to Legislative Deputry, Carlos Avendaño, who is presiding the Comisión de Juventud, Niñez y Adolescencia.

Avendaño, who is an independent, assures that he will again ask the Ministerio Público for the list, though this time, he will not ask for the list of politicians, but rather for the names of the clients of Sinaí.

The Ministerio Público has thousands of hours of taped conversations between the madam and her customers, conversations that were wiretapped during the course of the investigation that led to the arrest of Sinaí.

The job of the Fiscalía (prosecutor's office) is now to identify the voices on the tapes and match them to known Sinaí customers.

Minister Gil and others are adamant that the customers should also be prosecuted if there is sufficient evidence tying them to using the services of underage prostitutes.
