Colombia and Venezuela Highlight Left-Wing Victory in Uruguay
Main radio and TV news programs and written media in Colombia and Venezuela highlighted on Wednesday left-wing Tabare Vazquez´s inauguration in Uruguay and his first move of re-establishing diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Colombia´s RCN TV News said with Vázquez' inauguration confirms Latin American peoples´ current trend of voting for left-wing candidates, something attributable to a failed neoliberal model in the region.

RCN showed images of the moment the new Uruguayan president decided to re-establish diplomatic relations with Cuba as his first international measure of his government.

In this regard, several radio news programs referred to the noisy booing Uruguayans provided as a farewell to former president Batlle and their happiness during the inauguration ceremony.

In an extensive editorial coverage, El Tiempo daily even warned Colombian President Alvaro Uribe over changes undergoing in the region and the possibility of him being isolated.

Meanwhile, in Venezuela, local media focused on Vázquez inauguration and President Hugo Chávez´ agenda in Uruguay.

The Uruguayan President´s decision to re-establish relations with Cuba was also highlighted.

Radio and TV stations covered a midday ceremony in Montevideo during which Vázquez and Chávez signed agreements aimed at boosting bilateral relations.

Vazquez said his country and Venezuela are facing the challenge of joining hands to turn the region into a deeply human place while Chavez stressed the just-signed protocols are very relevant for the region.
