Protest Against War with IRAQ

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets on Saturday from cities worldwide to insist that the United States give an opportunity to Peace and not to hurry in a war against Iraq.

Many took the streets of San José on Saturday to protest the United State's impending war with IRAQ. 

A gathering in front of the Teatro Nacional was filled with music, songs and talks and included Costarircans and foreigners.



Deal Reached at ICE
As reported yesterday, ICE has reached a deal that satisfies all the parties involved in the negotiations - the government, unions and the executives at ICE - to avoid a planned strike for tomorrow Tuesday.

Briefly, the deal allows ICE to postpone it's planned investments for this year and keep it's spending to not create a deficit, while guaranteeing there will be no layoffs. There will be a request made to the ARESEP, the public authority that regulates all rates for public services, in the increase of the cost of electricity.



Two Jamaicans Captured for Drug Smuggling
One of the arrests occurred in the airport Juan Santamaría, when two kilos of marijuana compressed in the luggage of one of the suspects was detected as he came to the country coming from Panama.

The second case was discovered in Limon, when another Jamaican tried to leave the country approaching the cruise shipt in which he worked. The authorities discovered an hidden kilo of cocaine in the soles of his shoes.

According to the Costa Rican legislation, the international drug traffic is punished  with up to  20 years of prison.


Now Roaming With TDMA Cellular Telephone possible
Aresep (Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos) approved ICE's rates for roaming telephone service to it's TDMA cellular telephones>

Customers with TDMA telephones can now use their cellular phones in different countries with a cost of between $0.59 and $1.09 depending on the country they are visiting.

In addition, you can receive calls made from Costa Rica to the cellular telephone while visiting abroad, with the cost of the call set at the international rate now charged by ICE.

For customers who want to take advantage of the this service, they make prior arrangements and leave a $150 security deposit.


World Trade Organization Talks End in Deadlock, Frustration Up
The United States and Europe traded barbed comments Sunday after three days of WTO talks exposed deep divisions on agriculture and other issues that could put the latest round of world trade liberalization in jeopardy.

Putting a brave face on things, the head of the World Trade Organization said there was still hope of meeting a March 31 deadline for reaching an agreement on farm trade reforms.   · Complete Story
