Happy New Year!

New Year's Resolutions/Predictions

The new year has rolled in and you know what that means, it's time to make New Year's resolutions that you won't keep and make predictions that won't happen.

I'll go first. My New Year's Resolution is to update the pages of Insidecostarica.com earlier than ever. My New Year's prediction is that the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) will declare Costa Rica  a "pothole" free zone, having filled every pothole and repaired every road in the country.

La Guacima A Success; Palmares and Puntarenas Around the Corner
For tens of thousands of "Josefinos" (residents of San José), the annual festival held in La Guacima de Alajuela had to do, given that the traditional Zapote Fair held in San José was cancelled this year.



Running from a bull is part of the holiday tradition that is known as "Toros as la Tica", where dozens of young men enter the bull ring to show their courage by trying to touch the bull's horns without getting gored. The "Toros" this holiday was held in La Guacima, Alajuela, after the traditional Zapore Fair was cancelled.

Thousands of Fish Killed in Tempisque Contamination
The Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía (MINAE) - environment and energy ministry - has yet to calculate the damage caused by a devastating contamination of the "humedales" of the Tempisque river, located in the Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Cipanci.

TLC Priority For Government
Now that the holidays are over, life returns to normal in Costa Rica and the number one topic on hand is the Tratado Libre de Comercio (TLC) - free trade agreement with the United States - and the approval of the agreement, which there is no doubt obtain the required votes in the legislature.
