Hundreds lined up this week for a chance at a government job. The Government took applications from aspiring to be 'public employees' for all types of jobs in the public sector.

This was the case from Monday to yesterday as lines formed for more than one block and a half in downtown San José.

Today is a national holiday in Costa Rica. It marks the 179th anniversary of the annexation of the Guanacaste province.

All government offices and banks will be closed. Other upcoming Costa Rica holidays:
