Yachtsman Nabbed With Huge Cocaine Haul Off

Canadian yachtsman pretending to be a tourist
sailing home from the Galapagos Islands has
been caught with a record haul of cocaine in
waters off the Costa Rican coast, police said
on Wednesday.
Police chief Jorge Rojas told reporters
that the seizure of 2,992 pounds (1,360 kg) of
cocaine on Tuesday was the biggest in the
Central American nation's history. >more

More than 50 teens walked out of a
controversial behavior program in Costa Rica
that has this week after government officials
told them they could not be held against their
will.
The teens left the Academy at Dundee Ranch
after officials with the Patronato Nacional de
la Infancia or PANI (Costa Rican Child Welfare
Agency ) made an unannounced visit Tuesday to
the school in the town of Orotina, 45 minutes

closes freezers to Canadian beef
Two more cattle
ranches — including one in Saskatchewan —
were quarantined yesterday as investigators
try to trace the whereabouts of an Alberta cow
with mad cow disease.
The
beef cow with the first confirmed case of bovine
spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in Canada in the
last decade apparently spent time at those two
cattle ranches before it joined a herd of 150 cows
near the community of Wanham in northwestern
Alberta. That ranch was put under quarantine
