any last minute changes, ICE is set to
strike today
As promised by the worker's union at ICE,
there will be a definite strike today and it
will continue until the Central Bank
authorizes the issue of bonds as per the
agreement ICE has with the government,

could begin trade talks with another
unspecified Latin American country or
the Mercosur block before signing the
Free Trade Area of the Americas pact
set for 2005, a U.S. official said
Thursday.
Talks could begin as soon as the
United States completes free trade
talks on the regional U.S.-Central
American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).

Discrimination
at Work a Major Problem in Central America
Persecution
of labour activists, ''black lists'' drawn up by
employers, and lower wages paid to women are just a
few of the forms of labour discrimination suffered
by groups like trade unionists, women, indigenous
people, the disabled, and immigrants in Central
America.
In the 1990s, the peace accords that put an end to
civil strife in several Central American countries
contained blueprints for building societies that
offered people new opportunities. But discrimination
at work remains rampant in Central America, one of
the poorest, most unequal regions in the world.
