August 21st, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The trial of seven suspects in the murder of environmentalist Jairo Mora, 26, will begin on October 27th in the Criminal Court of Limón, according to the judiciary press office.
The trial is expected to conclude on December 5th.
In addition to homicide, the defendants are charged with aggravated kidnapping, rape, and aggravated robbery.
According to prosecutors, the suspects attacked Mora while he was patrolling the beach of Moin protecting sea turtle eggs along with other local and foreign volunteers.
In addition to killing Mora, the suspects are accused of raping a female volunteer who accompanied Mora.
The killing received international media attention.
