August 1st, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) A 73-year-old man died Wednesday morning after allegedly attempting to rape his 60-year-old sister-in-law in Chirraca de San Ignacio in Acosta.
According to the preliminary investigation, the man entered the woman’s home, who is divorced and lives alone, removed his clothing and attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman, attempting to repel the attack, pushed the man against a closet and he died, according to statements by the woman and an initial police investigation.
The deceased, identified by the last name Mora, had been married for 47 years and was a farmer.
The man’s sister-in-law was detained for several hours but was later released on condition that she is not to leave the country or change her place of residence until she is officially cleared of any wrongdoing.
Residents said the community is shocked by the incident, saying that Mora was well known in the community as an honest and hard working man.
However, residents also noted that women’s underwear had began disappearing from clotheslines some time ago, and some had accused Mora of being a “peeping tom.”
