Venezuela offers Solís government strong cooperation: “Anything Costa Rica needs”

May 9th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Vice President of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza offered yesterday his country’s broad support for the government of Luis Guillermo Solís.

“Together with the new government, we want to strengthen social, cultural, scientific and economic relations,” Arreaza said upon his arrival in the country yesterday for the inauguration of Solís, Costa Rica’s 47th president.

“We offer all the support of Venezuela for anything [the Solís government] needs.  Our energy, our social missions, and our ability to cooperate in any field.  Whatever Costa Rica needs,” Arreaza said, and urged for the “integration and unity of our people.”

Arreaza noted that Costa Rica this year chairs the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), a forum whose creation was driven by the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

  • grammar nazi

How about some help making payroll?

  • Frank Castle

I’m surprised he didn’t ask Costa Rica for toilet paper? Cheap oil for toilet paper would be a great trade!

    • Ben

Frank stop saying whats on FOX news. Venezuela has toilet paper. As for oil not a bad idea. Frank keep an open mind. Your a good guy.

      • gc

actually Venezuela due to price controls often does not have toilet paper, among many other things and i do not watch fox. their oil output is declining due broken contracts and deteriorating oil infrastructure

        • Ben

I been to Venezuela they have Toilet paper and coffee, soap and all basic items. I will be going back to Venezuela in 12 days will take pictures and post. Venezuela is open to small business. Where do you get your facts gc?

          • gc

from the miami herald, AP, Reuters. b interested in your photos.

          • Ben

Give me stories and facts not Rightwing news groups. AP is just as bad as FOX news. AP worked with Richard Nixon. Miami Herald is anti everything Canadian,Cuba est. Even the BBC says that these news groups are anti latin America.

          • SDPUS

And do you think La Nacion is acting any differently? They too are biased to the PLN. All news is a biased joke in todays world.

          • Ben

            Your right.

          • gc

yes but it seems you do not question the left as much as the right when history shows the non-fascist right has been much more productive than the non fascist left. from you post above you seem to have no prob with fascist cuba. did you think mao and stalin were just misunderstood?

          • SDPUS

Government can not be effective from either the far right or the far left. He needs to focus on the 50th percentile of people, meaning the middle class. Obama and Clinton were and are both centrist leaders.

          • gc

obama is an unqualified fool and neither clinto or obama give a rats behind about working people. obama is the worst president in the history of the USA. so no wonder you police state left wingers like him.

          • SDPUS

Police State left wingers? Sure gc, Obama built the huge military and police state of the USA. The more you open your mouth, the more obvious it is your an ignorant bigot. You can’t talk about anything without putting out your stupid inuendo. What rock have you been hiding under? So, what are your ideal candidates qualifications to look like? Some crook business leader, who has ran a Fortune 500 company…

          • gc

sure sdpus, clearly you read only from your amen corner. obama has invested more in militarizing domestic agencies than all previous presidents combined. in fact there was a long and specific credible article because it contained all weapons bought and personal trained from the government’s own records. of course you missed that, being a centrist lololol and all.

          • SDPUS

Obama has invested in technology to militarize our domestic agencies. He has cut personnel big time. Our government employs fewer people under Obama than it has at any other time in recent decades. Obama is fighting with drones, not people. I strongly disagree with much of what he has done with intelligence gathering. Spending under Obama is very controlled, much more so than under any GOP leadership. I believe Obama should create more gov jobs domestically, to fix our failing infrastructure. That would be a huge boost to the economy. The GOP won’t allow any sort of spending on jobs, whether it be raising the minimum wage, or a FDR style job creation program.

          • gc

FDR was a fail. Obama has blown all spending records. if you do not know he has Militarized almost every domestic agency withj SWAT teams, snipers, drone and tanks you are not informed about squat. dumb leftys.

          • gc

lest we forget 6 years of falling incomes and the ballooning of MCjobs. of course that is all bush’s fault despite the senate and congress both becoming dem controlled in the 2006 elections. oooooh, that was almost ten years ago. the turd is in the left’s pocket bucko.

          • SDPUS

Poor jobs and wages (MCjobs) are the direct result of a lack of competition, and the Walmarting of our society. That has been happening since Reagan started the attack on unions. Wages have also been flat for 30 years, not just since 2006. It is the private sector that creates jobs in a capitalistic economy. Ben was exactly right, the disapearing of Mom and Pop type businesses has killed our economy. Oligarchs rule in our economy, and they often fix prices, and buy off politicians. We don’t live under a pure capitalistic system. It is a crony capitalistic system.

          • gc

you are insane. you sound like you just walked out of an econ 101 course taught by a marxist. the economy has been killed by regs and taxes, that is what kills self employment, not out sourcing, not walmart grow a brain.

          • SDPUS

            I actually teach econ 101

          • gc

            poor kids

          • Andrew

Ben Dover: It is “YOU’RE” as in “you are”
“your” suggests ownership. Ex: “You’re wrong but you are entitled to your opion.”

          • gc

excuse me? ben you need to reconsider your thinking about right and left. right wing news groups? reuters and ap? seriously. have you been to cuba? i have not been to venz for 15 years. so i will not comment on that. but cuba is a floating jail as i saw it. besides if you get your wish and get rid of everything right you’ll starve to death.

          • Ben

I have been to Cuba. Cuba is not a floating jail. Cuba is doing fine. They are not the USA. I been to Cuba 6 times and my father has been going to Cuba for more than 20 years. What would you like to know about Cuba? I know more about Cuba than most people.

          • gc

to be honest ben, there is nothing i want to hear from you about anything anymore. i will stop responding to you’re posts ok. you go to cuba and think everything is fine, what i see is wack job nutzoville. 3 classes criminals, party members, and the poor. so best we just smile and agree to disagree. you just keep the revolution going and see how it works for ya. fair?

          • Ben

Go to Cuba and see for yourself. You might be surprised.

          • gc

been there done that. try reading posts. i was shocked at how sad it was, but then i do not hang with tourists. bastante chico.

          • Ben

Really. Did you see all the farming and small business that are taking off. Did you see the free health care that is better than the USA? Did you see the free education? You make it sound like all Cubans are sad and starving. Thats not the fact. When i go to Cuba a stay with a family in Havana and they seem very happy and have a farm and feed there kids. Maybe your not happy because you compare everything to the USA. Just a thought.

          • SDPUS

Venezuela is often lacking everyday items because of corrupt USA corporations, who purposely hold back items to “make the economy scream”, just as Nixon did to Chile in the early 1970′s.

          • gc

evil USA and corporations. just think of the world without the USA and corporations. lololololol

          • Ben

Without big corporation the world would be a better one. What is wrong with small business? USA use to be about small business.

          • SDPUS

Ben is exactly correct about supporting small business. There is a day in the not too distant past (Pre-Reagan)when the USA was for Mom & Pop business. Reagan destroyed that. He busted the unions, and since that period uninformed trolls like you have spoken like they actually have a clue on how an economy should work. Trickle down or supply side economics has destroyed the USA economy. All wealth has been transferred to the top. Corporations are sitting on trillions in profits, but they are keeping it hidden in places like Switzerland, Caymans and Panama. Corporations have the stock market at an all time high right now, but they are doing nothing to help employ people. All the GOP has done is say no to every Obama initiative, but yet he still has enabled them (corporations) to have huge profits. Unions ensure a healthy middle class of working people. Look at the budget deficits ran by Reagan, Bush and Bush Jr. They were war Presidents. They only allowed corporations like Haliburton to profit, because of their no bid contracts. The GOP has pushed the USA into wars that have helped no one but their elitist friends who are defense contractors. They have created a world economy with their puppet governments, like the PLN, who only focus on elitism. The same has happened in Costa Rica, with the pathetic leadership of the Oscar Arias party since the 1980′s. An economy only works correctly for all the people from the middle out. That is what President Solis will be focussing on, just as Obama policy has. Bill Clinton balanced the USA budget because he slightly raised taxes on the wealthiest. He left Bush Jr. with a huge surplus. Bush Jr. again reversed policy and destroyed our economy. When Obama took over we were losing 700,000 jobs per month. For 55 straight months Obama has created jobs, and that is without any GOP support. Like me or not, this is my trained expertise. I will be happy to further discuss the merits of the argument. But you must be truly learn objectiveness on the realities of government, and what works and what does not. Obama is about to raise taxes to the Clinton level. And then watch what happens. And on another note, your view on what you say is needed to fix the USA education system is ridiculous. Property taxes determine funding for schools. Wealthy communities have very good results, poor communities are suffering. Poverty is the # 1 issue when it comes to education. You can’t compare a school district in the Silicon Valley with that of one in Detroit.

          • gc

i will put you on the list with ben. you have a great life repeating silly lefty stuff without me please.

          • SDPUS

excuse my typos and bad grammar, I should have proofread before posting.

          • Frank Castle

I would love to respond to you on many of your points but it’s obvious that you have drunk too much Prog kool aid.

I’ll just say this. The USA is going downhill because BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES play games and DON”T FOLLOW THE US CONSTITUTION!!!! I don’t like the GOP and the DEMOCRATS because they lie constantly to get votes.

I hate crony capitalism no matter who is doing it. When was the last time the USA declared war on a nation, as required by the Constitution? Answer, WWII due to Pearl Harbor. Why not afterward? Because the vote then is ON THE RECORD and politicians hate that come the next election when things go bad. Both parties keep growing the government, hurting small businesses with excessive regulations. Both parties are voting for the NDAA, the Patriot Act and allowing the NSA to spy on the American people, which is WRONG. Obama signed the NDAA into law and Romney supported it.
I want the USA to be a non interventionist country but Obama doesn’t feel that way with surges of troops into Afghanstan, drone attacks in Pakistan and Yemen, involvement in Libya and almost in Syria, which the Congress threatened to stop which made him back down. Right now, we seem to be sending more troops into Africa running after Kony and Boko Haram, which pose no threat to the USA.
Oh, don’t think I support what Bush did in Iraq or Afghanistan either. Afghanistan was understandable at first but we should bash the bad guys then leave. Nation building is total nonsense and shouldn’t be attempted. Clinton getting us in the Balkans was wrong too. The Europeans should have handled it.
The USA needs to get back to its roots and fast.

          • SDPUS

Frank, I actually agree with most all your points here, except for one. I truly believe the best years are still in front of the USA. It is important to view government from about a 30 year window. I think Obama is making many important long-term structural changes, and I think you will seemainly Democratic leadership over the next few decades. I say that mainly because of demographic changes, meaning an influx of the Latino vote.

          • Frank Castle

I don’t have any problem with the Latino vote but with the influx of illegal immigrants into the USA that both political parties allowed to happen. It is lowering wages and hurting American citizens who need the work. Greedy corporations and business would much rather hire illegals they can exploit than citizens who know their rights. Costa Rica has the same problem with about 500,000 Nicas there in the country illegally. I want to make one thing clear, I’m not bashing LEGAL IMMIGRANTS from any country. My wife, came from the Philippines, became a resident, legally, then became a naturalized citizen doing the same. Americans just want to see this happen and their sovereignty respected just like Costa Rica does. I’m sure an out of work Tico or Tica, doesn’t appreciate a Nica or even some Gringo, working in their country illegally. It’s just plain wrong.

          • SDPUS

But remember Frank, this is the history of the USA. These complaints have been heard for over 200 years. Most of these immigrants come with little, and are willing to do the jobs that most modern day N. Americans are not willing to do. Yes, there should be a legal process, but mass deportation is not the answer to remedy illegal people. There is a more humane way to deal with the problem, than breaking up families. The drug war is simply legalized discrimination. Corporate welfare is a much more significant problem. Illegal immigrants spend money to keep the economy going. Corporations are not spending money at home, they are hiding it off-shore. Coming from the Philippines is a different type of journey, mainly because of proximity of where the country is located. It’s not really like she had the option of coming illegally, or at least it is much more limited. When you are poor, every dollar counts, and it is only human nature that you would take a chance and take the cheapest way possible. If the Philippines were bordering the USA, we would then have a problem with Philippino immigration. But that simply is not the reality. Your example of Nicas coming to CR backs up my theory. Proximity has a lot to do with it. Even in Costa Rica, the Nicas do the menial work that most Ticos simply won’t do.

          • Ben

Your right. Not many US citizens know what happened in Chile. Nixon helped overthrow Salvador Allende. Your history is good SDPUS. I would like to say sorry for critizing you in the past. You seem to know your Latin America history. Most US citizens don´t. Again sorry for not being so open minded to your comments. NIxon agenda is still very strong in Baby boomers minds.

          • Frank Castle

Nixon wasn’t one of my favorites either although he did finally end the Vietnam War, which was a good thing. Chile, Guatemala, Nicaragua, of course, El Salvador, Panama, etc. etc. etc. haven’t been the USA’s brightest moments when it comes to its foreign policy, that is certain.

          • SDPUS

Nixon discriminately started the war on drugs, the most costly of any of the wars in the long term to our nation, and the world for that matter. There is no military solution to the war on drugs, as 40 years of prohibition has clearly shown.

          • Frank Castle

I agree but that war will start winding down soon. MJ is become legal in more and more states in the USA. The mindset is gradually changing on this.

      • Frank Castle

I have an open mind and, Ben, don’t watch FOX news. I don’t even have cable TV, just cable internet. Yes, they have toilet paper but shortages of a lot of staple food and household items. Costa Rica, even with all of its problems, is doing much better than Venezuela, which should make you feel pretty good. I think you elected a pretty level headed President too. Only time will tell. Thanks for the nice comment. I appreciate that you tend to always have a civil discourse with me even though we don’t always agree.

      • expatin paradise

Ben, Venezuela may have toilet paper today, or whenever you were there; however, my friends there have told of shortages of toilet paper as well as baby formula, milk, and many necessities. When shipments of these arrived, those who weren’t afraid of being killed in the streets would wait in long lines in hopes of getting the things they needed. Whenever my friends left the country, they would carry these items back into Venezuela in their luggage.

I do know that the Maduro administration finally changed its dollar policy very recently. Perhaps that has caused improvement so that basic necessities are no longer scarce.

  • SDPUS

The CIA are protectors of USA Corporations and their interests on international stage. Because their work takes place off-shore, they are often an uncontrollable entity, that work with a right wing agenda. In other words they do a lot of contract work for the corporations, and unfortunately get away with it. Both President Bush I & II are the only Presidents who still have weekly updates from them, while outside of office. No other President has ever done that when finished serving. Remember, Daddy Bush ran the CIA in 1976 & 1977. Oscar Arias has done the same with the DIS in Costa Rica since the 1980′s. I am glad Solis is implementing change with DIS, but it will be difficult, as many agents have loyalty to Arias and the big money!

    • Ben

Great Comments. Most people don´t like to talk about Oscar Arias roll with spy agencies. Some people i have spoke with in Costa Rica say DIS is a division of CIA. CIA works out of DIS offices. Solis is on the right path with Marino Figueres he wants to fix this problem. CIA i understand have been told that they need to leave DIS offices already. Lets hope that CIA and DEA can leave Costa Rica alone. Again Good comments
