Residents on north side of Lake Arenal on 4th day without landline phone service

May 6th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Residents in several communities on the north side of Lake Arenal have been without landline telephone service since last Friday, and the situation may continue for several more days.

Most of the communities affected are located between Tilaran and Nuevo Arenal.

The outage is the result of a massive theft of perhaps kilometers worth of cable, an ICE representative told Inside Costa Rica.

The representative said some sections of cable were replaced yesterday, only to be stolen again shortly after.  The representative said he was unable to provide an estimate as to when service would be restored, adding “it is going to take a lot of work.”

Gee, if they were using fibre optics, it wouldn’t be cost effective to steal it!

You think maybe it might be an inside job???? I’d wager on it…more ot for the ICE workers..I use to watch the ICE workers in Cuidad Quesada start their day off.Get in their trucks, leave the lot, drive a couple of kilometers away to the local coffee shop and sit for an hour relaxing…watched this several times..and you wonder why your ICE electric bill is so high…hello
