Ammonia gas leak at Pipasa plant causes scare

April 9th, 2014 ( Emergency workers responded yesterday to an ammonia gas leak at the Pipasa corporation in San Antonio de Belén.


Pipasa, a subsidiary of Cargill, is Costa Rica’s largest poultry manufacturer and distributor.


Firefighters secured the area and the leak was contained.


The incident occurred at about 3:50pm.  Firefighters from Santa Ana, a rescue unit from Tibas and a HAZMAT team from Barrio Mexico responded to the scene.


There were no reports of injuries or illness from the incident.
