Police officers arrested in death of homeless man

February 7th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) arrested on Thursday two former police officers as the primary suspects in the death of a homeless man identified by the last name Arce, which occurred on March 22nd last year.

The suspects are identified by the last names Corrales, 51 and Godínez, 35.

According to information provided by the OIJ, the two suspects were working as police officers in Alajuelita on the night of Arce’s death when the officers were called to remove Arce from a lot where the man was sleeping.

Apparently a confrontation occurred between Arce and the officers, and Arce suffered blunt force trauma.

The man apparently died of his injuries five days later in a homeless shelter in San José.

The arrests of the former officers came after a Homicide Medical Examiner’s report that indicated that Arce had been severely beaten.
