January 21st, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Bryan Cordero Obando, 25, who escaped from La Reforma Prison on Sunday, was captured in Santa Ana around 8 p.m. last night.
The escapee was captured after an anonymous caller provided police information as to the man’s whereabouts in Promesas de Brasil de Santa Ana.
Cordero was not armed when police arrived, and was taken into custody after a brief attempt to escape. Cordero has since been returned to La Reforma, where he has been serving a 5-year sentence for aggravated robbery since September 2011.
Authorities indicated earlier that the man’s sentence could be extended by two years as a result of his escape.
Cordero escaped from La Reforma on Sunday. Initial media reports indicated that Cordero might have escaped the prison by dressing as a woman, possibly escaping along with female visitors to the prison, though Inside Costa Rica has been unable to verify this version of Cordero’s escape.
Subsequent information provided by officials close to the investigation indicated that a hole large enough for Cordero to escape had been located in the northeast parameter of the prison.
In August, prison officials received information from a confidential informant about an alleged plan for a mass escape from the prison, which would be supported by accomplices on the outside.
