January 17th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Movistar plans to launch 4G mobile service in Costa Rica during the first quarter of this year, though it will initially only be available in the San José metro area.
The next generation system provides data rates many times faster than the 3G system currently in use.
The company has yet to release details on pricing and plans for the new service.
The company said that it now has more than one million active mobile lines in Costa Rica. According to telecom regulator, SUTEL, there were 6 million active lines in Costa Rica as of June 2013.
The company said it has invested at least $400 million USD during its two years of operation in Costa Rica
