December 16th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) President Laura Chinchilla received the “Twittera” of the Year Award by users of the Twitter social network in a San José bar on Sunday.
Chinchilla received the “prize” – consisting of a blanket and a USB thumb drive – at the Morazán Bar in San José, scene of the “Twitter Party Costa Rica 2013.”
The event attracted scores of Twitter users from around the country. Costa Rican Twitter fans give several categories of awards each year by voting online.
Chinchilla posted a photo of herself with several attendees on her official Twitter page.
Chinchilla has become an active user of the social network, regularly communicating and even joking with people from across the country.
When a Copa Airlines systems crash left the president stranded in Panama’s Tocuman airport for six hours after the Ibero-American Summit in October, Chinchilla took to Twitter and joked with other users to pass the time.
At one point, Chinchilla tweeted that she had suggested taking Ticabus back to Costa Rica, or “locating a boat and taking to the sea, we can choose either the Atlantic or Pacific thanks to the canal.”
The president continued to joke with dozens of Twitter users for the six hours she spent in the airport’s Diplomatic Room, adding that “this long wait was less tortuous,” by being able to communicate with the social network’s users.
