A 1911 .45 ACP will do me nicely.

    • morlaine

Oh, Rusty, you are so right. If more people grew a set and responded as this guy did, there would be a lot less crime in Limon, and Costa Rica in general.

      • canadamike

yeah – that’s really working in America – the world wide model of a crime abiding society and civility.

        • Douglas Hotchkiss

          remain cowering in canada then

          • canadamike

Douglas. When you can’t just talk about the point and have to bring race or heritage into it… that’s a pretty solid sign that you don’t really have an argument that you are able to articulate.

Here’s some facts for you… there are 7 Canadian hockey teams – 23 American. A fight in hockey is a) rare and b) consensual. Hockey produces far less catastrophic brain damage and suicides than your ‘gentlemanly’ American Football. I for one, love both sports… but am left wondering… what was your point again?

And simply staying away from guns is not “cowering”. You Americans seem to think that if you can attack someone’s manhood that it makes you right. It doesn’t.

In the same manner we stay away from the edge of a cliff – or stay away from high crime areas – or stay away from serin gas… staying away from guns is what we logical types simply call ‘staying alive’. Check the numbers… in Canada, and in Costa Rica… it works!

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

you and i will never find any common ground here sport, i dont see where i played any race card- can’t handle a soft dig on canada ? go cry to mama , eh? you have no point i care to address anyway.

            • canadamike

People LIKE you always go for race and heritage on these message boards… you’re quite typical. I don’t mind a dig on Canada, but in lieu of civilized conversation… it’s juvenile at best. The only reason this conversation exists was my dig on Americans so perhaps you should “go cry to mama” (that’s as juvenile as it gets). You say I have no point you wish to address?… yet you’ve tried twice already. What’s with that? I stand at the ready for your third attempt.

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

you are quite a prejudice person , eh? you have no idea what i’m like or what i’m about.

            • canadamike

You may have been able to say that had you not responded 3 times to my post. you’ve revealed quite a bit about yourself. But isn’t that why we’re all here? Got #4 in ya?

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

let me tell you something junior- i was born up in the 1000 islands , where i met abbie hoffman anti war activist from the nam days. i’ve worked in a hospice for children and 20 years in human service to the seriously mentally ill. i’ve monitored level 3 sex offenders and have an award from the governor. i’ve been a victim of assaults on numerous times and fought for my very life- because you go where the job takes you , you dont back down cause it looks scary – ever. now i sit on the porch and keep an eye on the playground across the street in the barrio . trust me- you are no detective.

            • canadamike

Very interesting Dad – and quite commendable. Perhaps if you opened with that… you’re bitter, meaningless jabs would have carried some weight. Of course you go where the job takes you – but alas, we’re all not like you are we? 99.5% of everyone don’t have a life like yours – as impressive as it is. So in that case… some perspective is needed, some understanding and tolerance… just to have a real conversation about a real issue. Naysaying and name calling is going to get you pegged as nut job every time. Got #5 in you Mr. “I don’t care to respond to you?”

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

i can guarantee you are no son of mine – the bitter part comes from ptsd, mood disorder and depression , the diagnosis i now have. and counseling you is a chore . now go back to the shallow end of the pool .

            • canadamike

You’ve done no counseling my friend, and I wish you did with you breath of experience – I am truly interested in your civil conversation on the matter. But alas, you’ve only hurled insults and done all you can NOT to address the article or the post… just take shots at me and my heritage. I’m sorry for your condition… I truly am. But perhaps, this is not the best forum for you to express yourself. I have a feeling that you’d better share your experiences and opinions over a couple beers. Be well.

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

point is- one should be prepared to defend life and property, and that fucked up criminals like this one need to get shot. attitudes such as yours do not appeal to me and since i dont go to bars – forums like this a better for me , as i have little patience for ” people like you” lotsa luck . you’ll need it.

            • canadamike

I get your point Douglas and agree with it where this turd is concerned. But there’s more points out there than just yours and mine isn’t there? I tried to be civil. I was even complimentary and down right polite in my last post. But your just a grumpy ol’ curmudgeon aren’t cha? It’s clear to me now that you don’t need a drink… you are in serious need of a blwjb!

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

what i need is a big joint..ran out a few days ago- actually i’m a crazy old coot.. dealing with chronic pain now >, i ‘m reclusive nowdays, cause i know how i am , my dogs seem to like me and l yell at them most the day . now quit yappin and roll me a god damn joint , and skip the bj , haven’t had a hard on in months.

You are a crazy ol’ coot and there’s nothing wrong with that… just try not to be so angry. Life is short. I mean it when I say.. be well!

holy crap Dougie… no wonder you’re so grumpy. I’ve been blessed with good health – up until this moment of course and am not counting my chickens by any means. but I can’t imagine understanding that kind of discomfort. I think i’d be angry too. take care.

            • Douglas Hotchkiss

so dont be so offended when i call you a pup .

            • canadamike

by the same token, if you had stated that sentiment from the gitgo, i wouldnt have to be yappin at you , would i?

            • LeeH

I got canadamike’s point very well and it was very well put.

        • morlaine

I lived in the US for more years than you are old and only knew one person who was killed in a violent crime. I’ve been here in Costa Rica 6 years and personally know 7 people that have been killed. Costa Ricans need to fight back because bullies will push and take as much as you let them.

          • canadamike

I lived in Miami for 30 years – does that count? There were 7 deaths there last month alone… and that’s just 1 city in 1 state. Whether you actually KNOW the deceased or not is inconsequential to this conversation. I have lived in Costa Rica for a few years now, been visiting for 20, and have yet to see anyone get flipped off in traffic – so I have to wonder, what drug gang are your traveling with that you personally KNOW 7 dead people? Perhaps you’ve proved my point, if you want to FIND violence, go where the guns are – there’s plenty of it. On average, depending on which report you read, there are about DOUBLE the number of handgun deaths in the US as there were in Costa Rica – and that’s per 100k citizens – not total. And Canada is HALF of that. What is it with Americans (which I am btw) that just can’t open their minds to the remote possibility that what they’re doing is NOT working?

            • Frank Castle

Candamike, No offense but I will continue to support the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. If my government (it’s heading that direction) becomes tyrannical, at least I can fight back. You, not really since your hands and shovel aren’t going to get you too far if that happens.

Oh, did you notice what happened when Ortega started threatening Costa Rica? A citizen militia formed, just in case. I wonder why? Maybe, they didn’t want to be defenseless and defend their family, property and their country.

I follow history and those who give up their guns have not fared well. Read about the Ottomans slaughtering at least a million Armenians, Stalin slaughtering millions of Kulaks, (Hitler Holocaust, Jews), Pol Pot’s Killing Fields and of course, closer to home, the Guatemalan Civil War where defenseless Mayan people were killed by the thousands (200, 000 is one estimate). Gee, none of these victims had any guns to fight back with.

So, whether the bad guys are just thieves, hateful mentally messed up people or a tyrannical government, I prefer to be able to defend myself. Oh, in all the time I have carried a gun, I never hurt anyone.

        • McDemon

This shitbag chose to go into the business of assaulting and robbing people for a living. In this line of work there are inherent risks, as with many other jobs. He went to work that day with the full knowledge that his chosen line of work could easily result in his death. I will never shed a tear for thugs who get shot down and anyone who does it should be given a civic award!

          • canadamike

I agree with that entirely. I’m not every going to justify what he did or second guess what he got. The world is better off without him.

      • SarongGoddess

I’m normally VERY ANTI-gun as I’ve known TOOOO MANY people that did more harm than good with a gun – BUT – NOT that I’m thinking of getting one as so far I still feel fairly safe (for ME but NOT for others) – because of how CR’s becoming the Wild West in MANY ways – I’m not so against them all the time.

    • Douglas Hotchkiss

they should give him a box of bullets and a high cap gun, the cops dont seem to be able to use theirs

    • McDemon

BRAVO!!!!!! A pine box is just reward!

      • Douglas Hotchkiss

why waste good wood- throw the carcass to the vermin that he was..

        • McDemon

I’d throw him off the Tarcoles river bridge with a bloody chicken tied to his neck if I had my way. Watching the croc’s frenzy would warm the cockles of my heart!

          • Douglas Hotchkiss

and watching a croc vomit would be a warm and pleasant afternoon..

          • Frank Castle

You might bring in a few more turista colones with that spectacle! ROFL!

        • Frank Castle

Croc bait is more like it!

    • roberto

Canadians don’t have The Second & Third Amendments I suppose. Google the Third Amendment to the US constitution.

      • LeeH

No they don’t. And so what? They have far less gun deaths (2.3 per 100,000 vs 10.3 per 100,000) and troops have never been quartered in their homes.

        • Douglas Hotchkiss

because they live in canada with great dope and arent all jammed in a shithole?

          • LeeH

I feel sorry for you and your outlook on life. I have no use for people who make their own pitty party. That incudes you.
