The incident took place at 10:45 a.m., when the baby’s mother apparently dropped some items outside the vehicle. Upon momentarily stepping out of the vehicle, the door shut and the central locking system activated, locking the mother out of the vehicle. The woman was not carrying a second key.
Firefighters broke a side window to gain access to the vehicle. The child was rescued without injury.
Many newer vehicles feature an automatic locking system that locks the doors if the vehicle is running. If you must step out of your vehicle, even momentarily, it is recommended to turn the ignition off and take the key with you.
