Authorities respond to report of armed group in mountains of Ciudad Quesada

October 8th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Police officers and forces from the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) conducted an operation yesterday in search of an armed group in the mountains of Ciudad Quesada, in the Northern Zone.

The search, which included police officers of the Fuerza Publica in addition to K-9 units and a helicopter, came after reports from local residents who said they have spotted the group at least twice, and said the group might have been interested in kidnapping a local rancher.

After several hours of searching the area, however, authorities were unable to locate the group and temporarily called off the search.

However, authorities stressed that they are properly prepared to respond should further reports be received.

The operation began at about 7 a.m. on Monday, generating a large police presence in the town of San Gerardo, south of Ciudad Quesada.

An increase in crime in the area has been reported in recent days.
