August 12th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck Santa Cruz, Guanacaste Sunday night.
The quake struck 114 kilometers west of Cabo Velas in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste at 11:19 p.m., according to the National Seismological Network (RSN).
The RSN said the quake occurred at a depth of 20 km, and mild shaking was felt in San José, Curridabat, Cartago, Aserrí, Heredia, Alajuela and Puntarenas.
The temblor was the result of subduction of the Cocos plate under the Caribbean plate.
The quake occurred near the area of the major earthquake that struck Costa Rica on September 5th, 2012.
