
March 21st, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Authorities reported yesterday the arrest of an Italian citizen who was attempting to smuggle liquid cocaine contained in vodka bottles, as well as a Guatemalan who had 80 latex capsules of cocaine in his stomach, both at the Juan Santamaria Airport.
The Security Ministry said in a statement that the Drug Control Police (PCD) that the Italian citizen, identified by the last name Deangeli, was arrested on Tuesday, while the Guatemalan citizen was arrested on Monday.
The Italian was destined to fly to Touluse, France before authorities seized the six bottles of vodka that contained liquid cocaine.
Authorities did not specify the Guatemalan’s destination. Authorities extracted from the man’s stomach 80 egg-like latex capsules containing a total of 1,125 grams of cocaine.
Both suspects are detained on the order of prosecutors and face charges of international drug trafficking, which in Costa Rica is punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison.
