470 kilograms of cocaine seized in South Pacific

March 21st, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Costa Rican authorities said tests confirmed they seized 470 kilograms of cocaine off a vessel they stopped in the South Pacific on March 18.

Drug Control Police (PCD) agents discovered the cocaine divided into 50 packages along with 30 barrels of fuel to power the four-engine vessel.

Two Ecuadorans and two Costa Ricans were arrested on international narco-trafficking charges, which carry a sentence of between eight and 20 years in prison.

Mauricio Boraschi, Costa Rica’s national anti-drug commissioner, said the confiscation was the result of a joint operation between Costa Rica and the United States.
