Beginning Sunday, construction plans will be processed online only

Construction Plans

March 15th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Beginning Sunday, March 17th, construction plans and drawings will only be accepted online, following the new Rules of Procedure for the Review of Construction Plans.

According to the president of the Association of Engineers and Architects (CFIA), Guillermo Marin, the main advantages of the new system will be greatly reduced waiting times for the review of construction plans, which will be reduced to just seven days for typical housing and 30 days for more complex projects.

Marin said that in the past, the fastest reviews took about six months and could last up to 18 months for more complex projects.  Marin said that projects that previously took up to 18 months for review would now be handled in just 30 days.

Authorities estimate that the new system will result in a 90% time savings, improving the sector’s competitiveness as well as reducing costs.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Commerce (MEIC) said that the new system will eliminate costs associated with printing plans and lost documents, and will allow the plans to go directly to those who review them.
