Murder suspect shoots two OIJ agents, escapes

March 13th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com)  Two OIJ agents in Limon were shot in the early morning hours yesterday when they tried to arrest a man identified by the last name of Canales that had an arrest warrant for murder.

Canales, 20, was in a liquor store in downtown Guapiles, when he noticed the presence of the OIJ agents.  He then pulled a gun and fired on the agents, hitting one agent in the chin and the other officer in the leg.

Other officers took the two injured officers to the hospital in Guapiles in serious condition.

After the attack, Canales fled in a white Mitsubishi Montero that was later seen traveling at high speed in another area of town by Fuerza Publica officers.

Minutes later, officers found the vehicle about 8km outside of town with its tires exploded.  However, the subject had escaped.
