45 people treated for injuries after bus rolls over in Santa Ana

bus rollover

March 12th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A bus overturned yesterday morning on route 27 near the Forum office complex, injuring 45 passengers aboard who were taken to various hospitals according to the Red Cross.  Two of the injuries were described as “serious,” and it took 25 ambulances to transport all of the injured to area hospitals.

The bus was carrying at least 50 people.  According to Luis Vega of the Transit Police, preliminary investigation of the accident indicates that the rollover was possibly due to a mechanical failure of the rear sway bar which helps stabilize the bus.  Other reports are that the bus driver was traveling at excessive speed and talking on a cell phone.

Route 27 was closed for some time yesterday as a result of the accident.
