March 8th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Another 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook Puntarenas yesterday afternoon, after a quake of the same magnitude struck on Wednesday night.
The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported that the earthquake struck south of Espadilla Sur de Aguirre, Puntarenas.
The 4.2 magnitude quake struck at 1:40pm, at a depth of 17 kilometers.
At least 3 other quakes have shaken the area over a period of four days. OVSICORI lists the area as having “very high seismicity.”
OVSICORI said that the quakes are being caused by the subduction of the Cocos plate under the Caribbean plate.
