February 27th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Bad news for drivers, again. By the end of this week, or at the latest early next week, gasoline and diesel prices will once again increase.
“Super” gasoline will increase by 17 colones per liter (64.35 colones per gallon) to 735 colones per liter, or about $5.55 per gallon.
Regular gasoline will increase by 15 colones per liter, to 693 colones per liter, or about $5.24 per gallon.
Diesel will also increase by 15 colones per liter, to 656 colones per liter, or about $4.96 per gallon.
These are the highest prices have reached since November of last year.
The Regulatory Authority for Public Services (ARESEP), which approved the increase, is blaming the price hikes on geopolitical problems in the Middle East, corruption scandals in Spain and even Italy’s parliamentary elections, according to ARESEP spokeswoman Carolina Mora.
Editor’s note: Dollar prices in this article were based on an exchange rate of $1/501 colones, and is subject to change.
