February 26th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Bahía Ballena made it on the list of the “Hottest Travel Destinations of 2013,” by the renowned U.S. travel magazine, Travel & Leisure, read by more than 4.8 million people worldwide.
This majestic locale is located in the South Pacific of Costa Rica, and is frequented by dolphins and humpback whales, which prefer the warm waters to breed and give birth to their young.
Ireth Rodriguez, Marketing Director for the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), said Bahía Ballena is a home for biodiversity, and is an attractive destination for responsible travelers, nature lovers and sustainable tourism.
“This recognization is very important because it reinforces the work that has been done to promote the destination. The area is visited by large numbers of tourists, who are attracted by the beauty of the South Pacific and the variety of activities,” Rodriguez said.
Bahía Ballena joins on the list destinations such as Basilitaca, a coastal region in southern Italy, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Amsterdam, amongst others.
Apart from whale watching, the area has a variety of flora and fauna, and beautiful beaches like Dominical and Uvita.
Some activities enjoyed in the area are horseback riding, beach walks, boat trips for dolphin and whale watching, and for the adventure tourists, kayaking and diving, as well as surfing.
