Police arrest gang responsible for violent home invasions in San Carlos

February 21st, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Police arrested on Tuesday night a gang dedicated to violent home-invasion style robberies, in Venecia de San Carlos.

 

The arrested members of the criminal group where identified by the last names Velasquez, 21, Hernandez, 25, and Gutierrez, 26.

 

The subjects allegedly entered and brutally attacked a homeowner in the town of La Union, also in San Carlos.

 

The 55 year-old homeowner confronted the subjects in an attempt to defend his wife and property.

 

The suspects stabbed the man with a knife and beat him.  He later fell unconscious from loss of blood and was eventually taken to Hospital Mexico.

 

Police were able to arrest the suspects 15 minutes after fleeing the home.  All of the suspects had blood on their clothes, and one carried the victims cell phone.

 

The group is also suspected in 10 other robberies.  Two months ago, the same three men had escaped from the police after assaulting another home, according to authorities.
