Municipalities discuss planting of GMOs in the country

February 13th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Municipalities that both support and are against the planting of genetically modified crops will meet on Wednesday to discuss the issue and possible solutions.  The meeting also seeks to advise municipal councils that have not yet issued a decision on the planting of GMOs in their municipalities.

The Executive Director of the National Union of Local Authorities (UNGL), Karen Porras said that a fair and non-biased workshop will be held to begin the discussion over GMOs, with the hope that municipalities will be able to determine a stance, either for or against such crops, without political and outside influence.

Members of the Board of UNGL said they currently have a neutral stance on the planting of GMOs, but plan on a decision on the topic after the meeting.
