American woman dies at Playa Avellanas

playa avellanas

January 17th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) 72-year old U.S. citizen, Dorothy Paradis arrived in Costa Rica on Monday, along with her husband. They came to Costa Rica to enjoy the beautiful beaches in Guanacaste.

According to hotel representatives, the couple stayed at Hacienda Pinilla, in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste.

Neither imagined that going to the beautiful, warm beach of Avellanas the next day would end in tragedy.

The cause of the woman’s death is not yet known, though authorities hypothesize that the woman may have had a heart attack while in the water, or that a strong current overcame the woman, causing her to drown.

The Santa Cruz Red Cross staff arrived at the scene and declared her death. Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) agents took the woman’s body to the judicial morgue, where she will have an autopsy to determine the exact cause of her death.
