January 15th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A man from Buenos Aires, Palmares, identified by the last names Valverde Villalobos, died last night after a bull gored him during the “bullfighting” activities at Palmares, scene of the annual fiestas which once a year turn this otherwise quite town into a party mecca.

According to the report from the Palmares Red Cross, the 28-year-old man was transferred to the Carlos Luis Valverde Vega Hospital, in San Ramon, in critical condition. He later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Alfonso Rojas of the Red Cross said that this is the first person seriously injured during the annual event.

Valverde was gored through his neck.

Unlike some other Latin countries, “bullfighting” in Costa Rica does not involve the actual killing or maiming of the animal, but rather is an amateur event where untrained men enter the ring and taunt the bull.
