January 9th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Between January and December of 2012, Walmart increased local sales by 7.7% in Central America.   The figure is somewhat misleading, however, as the dollar exchange sunk in most Central American countries in 2012.  Had the exchange rates maintained steady, sales would have grown by 13%.

Walmart opened 22 new locations in Central America under its various brands – Walmart, Maxi Pali, Mas x Menos and Pali in 2012.

The company currently operates 642 stores in Central America, which at least 170 were in Costa Rica as of November, 2011.
