January 5th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) Three minors were ordered to three months of preventive detention on suspicion of the homicide of Olger Chavarria Varela, 46, who was killed on December 28th in Las Juntas de Abangares, Guanacaste.
The order was made by the Juvenile Criminal Court in Canas, as the court continues its investigation to determine the degree of responsibility of each of the minors. One of the suspects is 15 years old, while the other two are both 16 years of age.
Chavarria was killed after receiving a number of strong blows to his head with a stone, and a cut to his neck with a machete.
Apparently, the attack came after the suspects and the victim were having drinks at one side of the town square. An argument broke out which provoked the attack.
