Chinchilla may celebrate end of Mayan calendar in Guatemala

Mayan Calendar

December 7th, 2012 ( December 21st, 2012 represents a “new era” for many, while others believe it may be the end of the world.

Guatemala officially invited the President, Laura Chinchilla, to the festivities that will take place in that country on December 21st in celebration of the end of the Mayan calendar.

Chinchilla indicated that she intends to attend the festivities in Guatemala with her family, though she must first review her schedule, according to Communication Minister Francisco Chacon.

The invitation came from President Otto Perez Molina of Guatemala.

The government of Guatemala says it is preparing a spiritual and solemn festivity in remembrance of the 44 deaths caused by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake which struck that country on November 7th of this year.

The largest populations of contemporary Maya inhabit Guatemala, Belize, the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador, as well as several Mexican states.
