November 21st, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) ICE will open its first solar energy park tomorrow, which will be the largest solar energy project in Central America.
The solar park is located in Miravalles, in La Fortuna de Bagaces, Guanacaste, in front of the Miravalles III geothermal plant.
The National Electricity Institute (ICE) says the solar park’s electric production will be used by nearby communities.
The Miravalles solar park consists of 4,300 photovoltaic panels of 235 watts each on nearly 7 acres of land, according to information provide by the ICE press office.
The solar park will produce 1 megawatt, which represents electrical service for approximately 800 homes.
ICE says their objective with the plant is to mitigate global warming through the use of clean energies.
The solar park was possible thanks to a $9 million donation from the Japanese government.
