November 2nd, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) Obtaining or renewing a driver’s license will become more expensive in the coming weeks.
The current fees will be doubled.
“It is very clear that the cost of a driver’s license and issuance of permits are not completely up to date. Although the doctor’s certificate makes the process more expensive, this document is not related to the investment in resources that COSEVI makes in order to be able to issue a driver’s license. Therefore, we have carried out an investigation that will be presented to the board of directors in the next few days,” said Silvia Bolanos, Executive director of Cosevi.
The new Traffic Law allows the board of directors to approve these adjustments in prices. Though the prices have not been defined yet, the intentions of COSEVI are that the price for a renewal is to increase from 5,000 to 10,000 colons, and a brand new driver’s license would probably cost 20,000 colons, rather than the 10,000 colons that are currently being charged.
Some residents feel that the process for renewals is too slow, and the service in general is deficient.
COSEVI states that the current costs for the documents are very low, and it is necessary to increase the prices in order to improve service.
