November 1st, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) – Those who are interested in opening a business or doing some construction in the municipality of San Jose will no longer have to wait 30 days to obtain the necessary license or permits.
As of today, the municipality will offer the necessary licenses and permits in as little as 24 hours, once all the requirements are met.
The municipality says that in the worst-case scenario, a person may have to wait a maximum of 8 days to obtain authorization, should any problems or backlogs arise.
Applications can be filled out on the municipality’s web page, at: www.msj.go.cr .
Applicants may pay the necessary taxes for the process on the same page.
San Jose is the first local government in Costa Rica to offer this service.
Marvin Rodriguez Duran, vice Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce, stated that the Municipality of Alajuela would soon provide the same service.
“This will allow for better timeframes, better service and it will attract investment. It is part of a national strategy to simplify processes,” said Rodriguez.
Those requesting a business license or construction permit in San Jose must have some information on hand in order to complete the form.
The new “digital signature card” is also required, which can be obtained at various banks, the National Insurance Institute (INS) or by calling 800-637-5465.
According to Jorge Solano, from the Digital Government office, the platform is very user friendly.
Users will be able to track the status of their application on the same page.
The Municipality of San Jose receives some 3,000 requests for business licenses and a similar amount for construction permits each year.
