Welcome to a Fish out of Water

A Fish out of Water

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Welcome to a Fish out of Water, a new weekly column by Richard Krug, owner of Americana Sportfishing.  This will be a new weekly column featured here on Inside Costa Rica every Friday.

I am Richard Krug, owner and founder of Americana Sportfishing. I have been successfully arranging sportfishing charters and fishing vacations in Costa Rica for the past 20 years. I and my associate Mark Sydney will tell you what’s happening in Costa Rica’s sportfishing world, update you on the week’s top catches, what’s biting, and give you tips on where to fish, when and with whom.

Last week, clients fishing with Captain Esteban Marcos on the 36ft Good Day Too out of Los Sueños Marina in the Central Pacific had a day to remember, releasing three Blue Marlin and three Sails, and also catching 11 Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) and a 40lb Tuna. Also out of Los Sueños, Captain Alex Holden on the 32ft Miss Behav’in released three Sails, broke off one Blue, and caught a Dorado.

Costa Rica’s peak sportfishing season starts in earnest mid-November with a great Marlin and Sail bite off the South Pacific coast. For those with free time now, Captain Bobby McGuinness, chosen world’s top captain of 2006 and 2010 by the International Game Fish Association, invites you to fish with him out of Golfito. Bobby holds more IGFA world records than any captain fishing in Costa Rica, and his Marlin catches in spots he alone knows are legendary!
