Strong waves closed the highway through Caldera on August 6th
October 21st, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) The National Risk Prevention and Emergency Response Commission (CNE, in Spanish), has asked the population who lives on the coast or who may plan on visiting the Pacific beaches this week to be cautious, due to strong seas and large waves which the commission is forecasting will on Tuesday.
According to the report form the oceanographer Omar Lizano, from the Sea Sciences and Limnology Investigation Center (CIMAR, in Spanish), the large waves could occur due to a low pressure system that forecasters believe will station itself off the Pacific coasts, along with the arrival of swells from remote storms from the South Pacific, which may result in strong waves that could be dangerous for beach goers and coastal residents.
According to the forecasts, on Tuesday and Wednesday, the waves may be up to 3 meters high in the South Pacific, and about 2 meters high in the Central and North pacific.
Experts at CIMAR explained that due to the variable conditions of the weather, the waves may worsen, and the ocean might also become dangerous watercraft, especially for small boats under 7 meters.
